At that time in the Minnan region, red bricks were particularly valued and became an essential material in traditional architecture. These red bricks were used to construct residential houses, temples, and ancestral halls, creating a unique Minnan architectural style. Today, many buildings still retain their original construction techniques and materials, preserving this historical culture for future generations.
These red bricks, left over from the restoration of this old house, are over a century old. Nowadays, such techniques and materials are rare, making them valuable cultural relics.
Unlike modern construction techniques that use concrete and steel, buildings back then were constructed by laying red bricks one by one. Additionally, the bricks used in the past were different in size compared to those used today. The red bricks in Minnan architecture are 230 mm long, 110 mm wide, and 55 mm high, which is twice the size of the bricks commonly seen today.
